This classic book by Andrew Murray, written in the late 1800’s, has been an inspiration to many over the last century, helping Christians focus on the privilege of communion with our Heavenly Father in an ever deepening experience of prayer. What follows is my “Editor’s Note” to the book and below that is a link to download the complete work.
Dear Student, my reading of the original version of With Christ in the School of Prayer left me with the opinion that some usage of words and phrases in the text were a bit archaic, and thus obscure, to modern understanding. This also held true for the Bible translation that Andrew Murray used. Therefore, I have undertaken, on my own accord, to replace the scriptures quoted with those of translations that use a modern vernacular. In addition to changing the translation, in every place possible, I have endeavored to add the references of the Scriptures quoted, something often lacking in the original transcript. Regarding Andrew Murray’s choice of words, his manner of expression, and his presentation of concepts, as the editor of this edition, I have reworded those that, in my opinion, were the most confusing or problematic. Naturally, the process of editing another person’s words opens the door for the results to, though ever so slightly, be affected by the editor’s convictions. I should state again that I have limited my editing to only those areas that I considered most in need of clarification. At any length, to the best of my knowledge, the original text of this book is in the public domain, and on this basis, I have taken the liberty to make these modifications. It would be my hope that if I could submit my changes for Andrew Murray’s inspection today, that he would accept them. More importantly, I have approached this project as a commission from our Savior, the Teacher in the School of Prayer, and I pray that the product will elicit His blessing and, in His hands, inspire His Body to new heights of intimacy and intercession for His glory and the strengthening of His Kingdom on Earth.
