Come, Desire of Nations, come!
Fix in us Thy humble home:
Rise, the woman’s conqu’ring seed,
Bruise in us the serpent’s head;
Adam’s likeness now efface,
Stamp Thine image in its place:
Second Adam from above,
Reinstate us in Thy love.
Hark! The herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King!
How silently, how silently,
The wondrous gift is giv’n!
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His heav’n.
No ear may hear His coming,
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him still
The dear Christ enters in.
These less familiar verses of “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “O Little Town of Bethlehem” remind us that the real meaning of Christmas is vitally important. Without God in our lives, we are hopelessly “under sin” Ro. 3:9. We“must be born from above” John 3:7. May God grant all of us a deeper understanding of the great mystery revealed thru that little Child: “…Christ in you, the hope of glory” Col. 1:27.
